The Times Higher Education World University Ranking 2024 evaluated 1,904 universities across 108 countries and regions, focusing on teaching, international outlook, industry connections, research environment, and research quality.
In the top 100 global universities, the UK claims 11 spots, with three in the top 10 and seven in the top 50. The United States leads with 56 universities in the top 200, the highest number from any country.
The following UK universities are among the top 100 in the Times Higher Education World Rankings 2024:
- University of Oxford – Ranked 1st globally, maintaining its top position for the eighth consecutive year.
- University of Cambridge – Ranks 5th, excelling in various subjects, particularly law.
- Imperial College London – Jumps to 8th place, showing strength in medicine and physical sciences.
- University College London – Remains in 22nd place, boasting a diverse student population from over 150 countries.
- University of Edinburgh – Ranks 30th globally and 9th in the world for architecture.
- King’s College London – Tied at 38th, known for its excellence in medicine.
- London School of Economics – Secures 46th place and stands out for its expertise in economics and econometrics.
- University of Manchester – Ranks 51st, recognized in this year’s Times Good University Guide.
- University of Bristol – Holds 81st place, with a significant percentage of international students and a balanced gender ratio.
- University of Glasgow – Ranks 87th globally and maintains its position as one of Scotland’s top universities.
- University of Southampton – Makes the cut at 97th place, having improved from its previous ranking of 108th.
Oxford’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Irene Tracey, attributes its success to impactful research addressing global challenges. Meanwhile, St Andrews, ranked 193rd, missed the top 100.
